Moving onto our fifth release with a new up and comer, Akiko Kiyama
who is making some serious noise with a slew of releases coming out on
some of our favorite labels. Born and raised in Japan and now
residing in Berlin to pursue her blossoming music career, Akiko
presented us a monster of an EP with 5 tracks ranging from stripped
down minimal funk to some mental abstract madness. The title is part
myth, part story telling or maybe something she just made up but let
us tell you that this feline doesn't play when it comes to stripped
down machine funk.
Track Descriptions:
A1. Topaz - This crispy, bass heavy track with its subtle groove,
creeps up on you once locked into a mix. Very heady and layered with
the prefect amount of energy and funk with a touch of the dark. Save
this for prime time and you won't be disappointed!
A2. Ruby - So as you might have noticed that with all our projects we
invite our artists to take us that extra mile with an abstract
ambient/intro/outro experimental track. Akiko presents a piece that
exudes her heritage with an artistic sonic poetic track. As it builds
up you can almost feel the wind and smell the air of the island.
B1. Peridot - To fill the pieces of the puzzle she presented this
stripped down minimal monster of a track. You can almost picture the
title coming into effect here with a cat creeping up and waiting for
the kill, as the bass and all its elements build up to attack on the
cerebral. All the necessary elements are here for a full on attack!
B2. Tiger Eye - We place a warning when using this track, as the bass
can cause some serious mayhem on the floor. The cat has now become a
Tiger and is on the prowl with an unforgiving groove. Look into the
eye of the beast and you'll feel the infectious groove.
